I have encountered and observed all sorts of kinds of love. Love that's from your family, love from your friends, love from your significant other and this kind of love that you get from being a parent which is the best example of what God's love is for us.
I enjoy reading the "Love Chapter" in Corinthians! It talks about how we "do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal." We're empty, just plain, in fact we're are NOTHING and if you do not have love, you gain nothing. Love is essential is it not? Because without it I am nothing and without it I can gain nothing.
Corinthian's continues on to define what love is and it goes into specifics and very clearly defines love. I'll just go ahead and let it speak for itself.
1 Corinthians 13
1 If I speak in the tongues[a] of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,[b] but do not have love, I gain nothing.
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
So...where do I find this great love? Or wait better yet, should I even be trying to find this for myself. It can get very confusing once your humanistic wants get in the way. In my faith, I believe that God has this awesome plan for me which includes this great kind of love. At the moment, let me be straight and say that it is tough to wait for this "thing"/"love".
Love, it's pretty epic. It's above faith and hope, it's the greatest. Let me clarify that other than the "Love Chapter" being read at weddings does not only symbolize the Love that a couple should share in marriage, but describes the kind of love from God that nothing can compare to. Never forget that God loves you like a father would love his child.
So, the heart of the matter is that I want so bad that when I do fall in love. It would be that magical kind. This sounds sappy for me to say, but I want to be that Godly man for my wife and my household. I've got all these qualities to want to be proficient at. Maybe I have this ridiculous outlook on love.
